This downtime applies to everyone utilizing Chuu Cloud services! @Chuu Cloud
Two things are happening in April and May:
- ✅ I will be moving in May, so Chuu Cloud may be down for up to one full day.
- ✅ Before I move in April, I will add new HDDs to the server for NAS purposes. Chuu Drive is coming!
- As I get situated in the new location in May, I will move the server and networking hardware around. This will cause more short downtimes throughout the week. I will schedule these downtimes and post them as I can plan them.
All the things that would happen in April happened. Chuu Drive is live!
HDDs, HDDs!
I purchased 4 HDDs, specifically WD Red Plus NAS Hard Drives!
These NAS HDDs will be dedicated to cloud file storage. The two drives will be mirrored and striped (ZFS RAID10), which means the data stays safe if one drive fails. I GOT THEM ALL ALREADY 😮
I added the NAS drives to Chuu Cloud because a client needs cloud storage for large media storage and sharing. Once I set it up, I can extend this benefit to my friends who entrust me with their data for cloud storage and backup!
Maintenance Schedule
Because the maintenance will bring this forum down, I will post downtime updates on the Port Chuu discord server.
The maintenance will take a two separate days. I will keep you updated on Discord and here as much as possible!
✅ NAS Setup
This was completed on April 12, 2024.

Install new HDDs in the server Installed

Bring server back up Will restart the server on April 12 at 6:00 PM EDT
- ✅ Configure new HDDs with
zfs filesystem
- ✅ Set up NAS software. New service: Chuu Drive! drive.chuu.cloud
NAS Setup is complete. There's no more to do for this.
- HDD installation took 2 hours. (most of the time was spent digging up my server parts.)
- The downtime was only one minute.
- Chuu Drive setup took the following 8 hours.
Move downtime
- Server & networking hardware goes down for transport
- Server & networking hardware arrives at the destination
- DNS setup and propagation with new IP addresses
- Update networking configuration with new IP addresses
- Bring the server up!
- Update server configuration with new IP addresses
The server will be up at this point!
Future Plans
Once I launch Chuu Drive, I will plan more thorough data protection strategies. Chuu's top priority is to keep all of your data safe!
